Mammootty's Ee Pattanathil Bhootham on May 14

Malayalam superstar Mammootty's much-anticipated Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, directed by Johny Antony, is all set to grace screens on May 14. The movie, which was earlier slated for April 30 release, was postponed due to the delay in completion of heavy graphics and animations. The film has been scripted by Siby K. Thomas and Udayakrishnan.

Ee Pattanathil Bhootham is a fantasy-filled adventure, donning Mammootty in a double role as a bike jumper named Jimmy in a circus company and a friendly ghost! The story revolves around an orphan Jimmy brought up by Krishnettan (Innocent), who runs a street circus group.

Jimmy rescues a couple of street children from some goons and they become part of the street circus group, which is later merged with a commercial circus company, run by Philipose (Janaradhanan) and his daughter Ancy (Kavya Madhavan), a management graduate. While Jimmy is away, the kids again run into some trouble. However, they are rescued by a ghost who only they can see. The film develops from this point.

Produced under the banner of Hi Bright Movie Creations, the film has cinematography by Azhagappan and music by debutant music director Shaan Rahman. For the first time in her career, Kavya Madhavan is cast as Mammootty's heroine in Ee Pattanathil Bhootham.

No More Bikini - Says Kareena

Kareena Kapoor who had smitten almost every male fan of her with the lime-green bikini act in Tashan has now decided as no more bikini scene. Kareena who also wore a black swimsuit in Sajid Nadiadwala’s forthcoming Kambhakt Ishq has firmly decided to dress in dignified manner now onwards.

Bebo came to this decision after giving a promise to loving mother Babita that she wouldn’t do any more bikini scenes. There might be one more reason why Kareena took such a decision that since when she is engaged with Saif Ali Khan, she has been tagged as next Khan bahu. Kareena shares a good rapport with Saif’s parents, and so might don’t want to spoil the relation due to such an act. As she might be next Khan bahu, Kareena might be feeling the new family responsibility on her shoulders.

One friend of the actress said, “Kareena feels very comfortable with Saif’s parents. She has never felt more a part of any family outside her own. Although Saif’s mother Sharmila too wore a bikini for a magazine cover in her heyday, she completely revamped her wardrobe and bohemian attitude once the Nawab of Pataudi came into her life. Kareena now sees the legacy of the Khan bahu being passed on to her. She will not do anything that’ll compromise her status in Saif’s life.”

And as there is news about her swimsuit scenes in Kambhakt Ishq, Kareena denies it and says, “Maine bikini kahaan pehna hai? In logon ne chalu kar diya ‘bikinibikini’. I will never wear a bikini.”

No wonder the actress has already started her resolution as she has been spotted wearing sari instead of western outfits at many events.

“Enough of those gowns. Why can’t we actresses dress Indian?” says Kareena.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a great actor in Welcome. I shared a very close relationship with him. We got close during the shoot of my film, No Entry [which starred Feroz's son Fardeen].

I still can't believe he is no more. He was a great man apart from being a devoted actor. Initially, he did not want to do any film. But later, he told me that he would do it only because it was my film.

He had really liked No Entry and was impressed by Fardeen's work. I last met him in South Africa where we had a good time. I have always loved his films. I even remember his dialogues and most of his films, scene by scene. He was astonished because I could remember his films and dialogues.

He was so stylish. He had a class -- not only about his persona but also about his work, may it be direction, acting, writing...

I remember an incident during the shooting of Welcome. We shot most of the film in Switzerland but for the climax, we had to shoot in Dubai due to some technical problems. In Swizerland, Ferozsaab would wear muflers and woolen clothes due to the cold weather. But when we shot the climax in Dubai, the temperature was 48 degrees. Yet, Feroz Khan did not change the style of his costumes, as that would effect the continunity. We found it difficult to wear even cotton clothes but he never complained.

He was very disciplined and punctual. He would always be on time on the sets. His dedication surprised me sometimes.

He was very emotional when the shoot was over. When we returned to Mumbai, he surprised me with many gifts. I feel I have lost a family member.

And reports are that ace music director Sajid of the Sajid-Wajid duo is so impressed with Salman’s singing voice that he can’t stop raving about it. Sajid revealed that the star is touching notes like a consummate professional and the song is a result of Salman’s urge to sing.

The music director also admits that the hunky actor handpicked the 101 sounds used in the song and that the song has been recorded at a stunning 140 beats per minute (bpm). The last time Salman tried out his vocal talents, it was for Hello Brother, the music of which was composed by Sajid-Wajid.

Actually if I have to really look at it very objectively, these pictures tell a lot about me as a girl who has a healthy respect for herself and her body. A girl who is on the verge of being a woman and is someone who is comfortable in her own skin.

Q. Since this is not the first time that you have gone for a dare bare shoot like this, it must not have taken too much convincing for you to shoot for the magazine, isn't it?
A. This magazine has always been gracious in promoting new talent and they have always promoted me even in the beginning of my career. I knew they would do justice to my pictures and they did more than that.

Q. It has been quite a while since one saw you in a dare-bare photo shoot like the one you have done this time around. Had you been waiting for the right moment to strike?
A. Maybe. I don't really know but this shoot worked out fabulously well at the right time perhaps. See, 'Golmaal Returns' has been a hit, my work is being appreciated and I have 7 films on floor. Soon, 'Paying Guest' would be released too. (Smiles) I guess God has finally sent his angels to watch over me!

Q. So can one safely presume that after the shoot, Celina would eventually be making a statement to her colleagues in the industry?
A. (Laughs) May be this question should be put up to my colleagues.

Q. Overall happy with the way life is treating you?
A. Life is fabulous. It has given me so very much at such a young age. I am very happy and grateful to God and all the many people who love me. I am truly blessed. Inshahallah!

Hero's Wife's 'Private Dealing' with Producer

This is an interesting theme that appears fishy in the beginning but ends up with a right note at the end.

The hero's wife deals all the dates and call sheets of her husband. A producer approached her with an offer of Rs. 65 lakhs for her husband. But the wife demanded Rs 1 Crore. Responding to that the producer expressed his helplessness.

Finally the wife said, "Ok! I'll settle the deal for Rs 65 lakhs. But don't tell even the hero that the deal is this. Give only Rs. 40 lakhs to him and pay remaining Rs 25 lakhs to me".

The producer was shocked listening to this. He wanted to clarify and asked, "Why so?"

Then she said, "What can I say? He is wasting money for unnecessary things. He is not worrying about the future of our children. So I want to deposit the money you pay for me on their name".

Then the producer okayed the deal.

But the hero, who got indoctrinated by his friends, is now demanding Rs. 50 lakhs from the producer stating that his recent film was a hit. See the funny issue. The producer is prepared for Rs 65 lakhs. But hero is asking only Rs. 50 lakhs. Rs. 25 lakhs is the demand from hero's wife. The producer is now in a fix.

It would not be fair to reveal the entire plot of this film as the great fun while watching this film lies in the thrilling ride it takes us while watching it. The story of the film is almost a sprawling “epic,” that begins in ancient times (12th century) of evil kings and heroic Brahmins (Kamal in his 1st part out of the 10), then it fast-forwards to 2004. A computer chip containing a vicious biological material goes missing from a laboratory in the United States. An in-house scientist Govinda (Kamal again) who is aware of the dangers of the material launches a hunt for the missing material, which takes him to India. In the course of the hunt for the missing chip, Kamal takes on eight more characters and travels to many continents. From here, the film goes to a time when the whole world is on the brink of a biological warfare waged by terrorists. Actively opposing them is the American president who urges the rest of the world to combat this evil.

The film is part fantasy, part sci-fi, part action-adventure, part crime-thriller, part disaster movie etc. So huge is its canvass that it almost spans the entire globe right from America to India and even Japan. Not only that, you get to see Kamal Hassan fighting, in bike chases, car chases, singing, dancing, on ledges of tall buildings, falling off construction sites, you name it. The best part of it all is probably seeing Kamal Hassan fighting himself. While at times the special effects may not seem top-notch, it’s a wonder to see how much work has been put into this movie. The digital composites, the way they choreographed the movements of the camera and the actors, especially when Kamal Hassan’s multiple characters appear together in a single frame and move about, criss-crossing each other. Simply terrific.

Kamal Haasan deserves all the possible acting awards of our country and beyond for his brilliant act. His each role out of the 10 is a challenging task but he impresses the most as the Vaishnavite Brahmin Ranga. Asin in double role playing his love interest doesn’t get real great scope like she had in Ghajini but she impresses nonetheless. Mallika Sherawat in a role with negative shades is good too. Jaya Prada does a competent job. Rest all cast fits the bill and do a fine job as well. Himesh Reshammiya's music doesn't impress though and the almost three hours plus running time gets a bit tiring at times as well. But then you realise the set up as big as this requires such a long running time.

For entertainment hungry audience, this film is a mega treat, a must watch. At times you need to suspend your beliefs but then what the heck it is not as mindless as some other big hits that expect you to do so. Go watch the film for Kamal Haasan and the huge canvass.
